A Relaxing Stay in the Heart of Takayama: Takayama Green Hotel
* Published September 2025 *
After traveling through Japan’s bustling cities, our time in Takayama offered a refreshing change of pace—and the Takayama Green Hotel was the perfect place to slow down and take it all in.
From the moment we arrived, the hotel felt warm and welcoming, striking a balance between traditional Japanese hospitality and modern comfort. The dinner and breakfast buffets were a standout, offering a generous mix of authentic Japanese cuisine and Western favorites. The meals were not only delicious and filling but had enough variety to satisfy both adults and kids—a rare and welcome treat when traveling as a family.
Although we didn’t have a chance to enjoy the hotel’s onsen (hot spring) due to timing, we appreciated that the hotel provided all the attire and slippers needed to enjoy it comfortably. It’s a detail that speaks to their thoughtful approach to hospitality—and we’ll be sure to return with more time to relax.
For longer stays or those traveling light, the hotel offers self-laundry facilities and bike rentals, making it easy to explore the town or freshen up on the go. Right across the street, we found convenience stores and clothing shops, adding to the ease of our stay. And if you’re looking for souvenirs, you don’t even need to leave the building—Takayama Green Hotel’s in-house gift shop is impressively large, filled with unique local items and treats to take home.
Takayama is a town that invites you to slow down, and the Takayama Green Hotel supports that rhythm beautifully. Whether you’re here to explore the old town, enjoy local cuisine, or just soak in the culture, this hotel offers a calm and comfortable home base for your journey.
